It brings great excitement to announce a significant milestone in the field of Bible translation – the forthcoming release of the AI Critical New Testament (AICNT), now accessible online at https://aicnt.org and soon to be available for purchase as a book or e-book.

The AICNT is an innovative translation of the New Testament, facilitated by the cutting-edge power of the world’s most sophisticated Large Language Model, GPT-4, developed by OpenAI. As the first of its kind, the AICNT distinguishes itself from traditional translations with its unprecedented neutrality and transparency while maintaining high accuracy and readability. The AI translation provides a powerful, much-needed tool for critical study to be used by Christians everywhere as well as by those of other faiths and persuasions.

The central aim of the AICNT is to offer an unbiased English translation of the New Testament that upholds the highest level of transparency. By harnessing the capabilities of OpenAI’s GPT-4 Large Language Model, The translation reduces the potential for variability and biases that may arise in human-led translations. The consistent adherence to a specified protocol results in a rendition that is as unbiased as it is faithful to the original text. The AICNT is a direct translation, based on the Greek critical text utilized in modern Bible translations, and uses the authoritative BDAG lexicon as the specified reference for the translation of Greek words.

The AICNT is the outcome of a remarkable endeavor commencing after the release of GPT-4. Theophilus Josiah of Integrity Syndicate first developed the methodology, script, and system instructions to optimize the consistency and accuracy of the rendered output prior to rendering the entire New Testament. Subsequently, for a span of over two months, Dustin Smith, professor of Theological Studies at Reformed University, devoted himself to a diligent and thorough review. His meticulous assessment played a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and readability of the final rendered text.

Adding to the project’s unique approach, the AICNT includes over two thousand footnotes that serve to highlight significant manuscript variants. Such variants include the alterations of later manuscripts as compared to the earliest known manuscripts, exemplified as the critical text. Documentation of noteworthy manuscript variants gives the reader additional visibility into the manuscript tradition. Furthermore, the use of more frequent paragraphing is employed as an alternative to suggestive section headings. In addition to facilitating visual navigation, the increased paragraphing encourages more frequent pauses for increased contemplation and improved comprehension.

This tool promises to be indispensable for critical study by English-speaking Christians, interested parties of all faiths, and even skeptics, by shedding a fresh, unbiased light on Scripture. We anticipate that the AICNT will bring about a new paradigm in the study and devotional reading of the New Testament.

The AICNT Preface provides more detailed information about the aims, methodology, process, and features of this ground-breaking translation. It can be viewed at https://aicnt.org/preface.
